Iru (イル Iru), is one of the playable characters in 100% Orange Juice!. She was added to the game in DLC 20Iru & Mira Character Pack.jpg alongside Mira. Iru originates from the game SUGURI, in which she is one of the bosses.

Passives[edit source]

  • When challenging an enemy and no other effects affect turn order, Iru goes second and the enemy takes 1 damage before the battle begins.
    • If the enemy is KO'd from this effect, this counts as a regular battle KO.

Notes[edit source]

  • Iru will only deal 1 damage if she is allowed to move second. If another effect overrides the passive, the extra damage will not be dealt.
  • Iru's passive only activates when initiating battle, and only if there is no other effect that changes the turn order. As such, there are a large number of effects that allow Iru to move first in battle.

  • Bounty Battles count as Iru initiating battle, allowing her to deal 1 damage and move second

Overview[edit source]

Armed with a powerful photon rifle and spunky personality, Iru is a character with a powerful kit of tools at her disposal. Iru has perfectly neutral stats across the board, featuring an HP stat of 5, and neutral ATK, DEF, EVD, and REC stats. Her most notable aspect is her powerful passive ability which is slightly similar to both Sherry and Ceoreparque's passives. When instigating a battle, Iru automatically deals a single point of damage at the battle's start and then becomes the defender for the remainder of the battle. Notably, the passive enables Iru to essentially "snipe" characters at 1 HP and receive the rewards of a usual battle victory with zero of the risk or effort. Even when the opponent has more than 1 HP, the effect is still extremely beneficial against low HP opponents as a guaranteed extra point of damage, which can be the difference between a KO or not. The passive's damage can also be used relentlessly against tank characters to chip away at their large HP pool at double the speed. Likewise, boards with the Air RaidAir Raid
Every 5 Chapters, all units will take 1 damage at the beginning of the Chapter.
effect can be very useful in providing a constant flow of low HP opponents for Iru.

Iru has two key disadvantages; the first being that she is "too good" at one particular thing, at the detriment of having no other notable strengths. While Iru is excellent at sniping opponents at 1 HP, this means that her key source of free victories is one that is often sought after by other opponents. Playing against other characters that are good at securing KO's against low-HP opponents can make it difficult for Iru to capitalize on. The second and more obvious weakness is that Iru will almost always attack second, with only a few exceptions, leaving her vulnerable to an attack before she can make her own attack roll.

Effect[edit source]

Iru's Hyper is Extended Photon Rifle. When used, 1 point of damage will be dealt to a random non-KO'd unit except the player. This effect is performed a number of times equal to the player's level. The player gains 1 Win for every unit KO'd by this effect.

Strategy[edit source]

Extended Photon Rifle is a Hyper that gets more powerful the longer the game persists, although its cost also grows along with it. Even so, due to the Hyper's random nature, KOs from full HP are all but impossible against a large portion of the cast, meaning it is best used for KOs only when most opponents are at low HP.

Because of its scaling cost, playing this card when going for Stars Norma becomes less rewarding as the game progressed. However, it can still beneficial in the right scenarios. If an opponent is in front of you, you can play the Hyper to shave their HP down, to potentially have an easier time KOing them in direct combat. Iru's passive can greatly help with this strategy. In addition, the Hyper can be used to discourage opponents from attacking by lowering their HP before they even reach you. However, even these potential ways that the Hyper can benefit the player can be difficult to achieve due to the random targeting, and as such it is an overall fairly unreliable Hyper.

Tips[edit source]

Playing As Iru

Iru's main strength comes her ability to gain wins without actually having to fight, either through her passive effect or through the use of  Extended Photon Rifle. As such, going for wins is recommended, but a hybrid-norma game shouldn't be disregarded should one have trouble maintaining wins.

  • Focus on landing on  Draw and  Encounter panels in order to secure Hypers and early wins.
  • Attempt to challenge opponents with lowered health or poor defensive stats. Always challenge anyone at 1 HP, regardless of chosen playstyle or current Norma type.
  • Bullies and bruisers should be avoided if possible, as Iru's stats are well below average. Don't let them challenge you and, unless they're at 1 HP, don't challenge them; you're going to die.
  • Cards like  Cloud of Seagulls and  Long-Distance Shot, that passively deal damage to players, compliment Iru's passive and Hyper.
  • Any cards that raise Iru's poor defensive stats will always be helpful in reversing a bad situation.
  •  Sealed Guardian and  Forced Revival are your best friends. Use  President's Privilege or  Play of the Gods to offset the cost if going for Star Normas.
  • Iru benefits from the Air RaidAir Raid
Every 5 Chapters, all units will take 1 damage at the beginning of the Chapter.
event more than any other member of the cast; all it does is provide her with more easily breakable targets.
  • Because of her passive effect,  Tactical Retreat and  Shield Counter can both be used as quite literal hit and run tactics to get free hits in on any character, with the latter having the potential to KO much easier than normal. (Note: Be advised that this will not work against Sherry due to the nature of Iru's passive.)
  •  Bloodlust may help her constantly snipe opponents for a longer period of time. it could also synergize well with her Hyper. The downside that it's a high-risk high-reward by doing so.
Playing Against Iru

Iru's low stats make her a perfect target for any character that has at least +0 attack. Bully her into submission and try to avoid situations in which she can come out on top.

  • Aggressive characters should challenge Iru at every given opportunity. Passive characters with decent stats should challenge her depending on the situation.
  • Bringing cards like  Flamethrower or  Scrambled Eve, or other such cards that can force Iru to discard, can put her at a huge disadvantage in the late game.
  • Likewise, any cards that heal the player or other opponents can prevent Iru from using Extended Photon Rifle to its maximum effect.
  • Counter Picks:
    • Syura gets a stat boost at 1 HP, which is what an Iru will typically try to keep her at. Players can use this to their advantage to try and KO other players, or even Iru herself, before getting killed or hit with Extended Photon Rifle.
    • Miusaki, like with so many other characters whose playstyles revolve around dealing damage, is a reasonable counter to Iru, as  Solid Witch will negate the effects of her both passive and Hyper, as well as cards like  Long-Distance Shot and  Cloud of Seagulls. However, without Miusaki's hyper active, Iru has an easier time of breaking through her defenses than other characters do, making Miusaki a potentially risky pick without her hyper in hand.
    • Most, if not all, bully characters - Star Breaker, Yuki, Tomomo, etc.
    • Kai can take advantage of Iru's passive by playing  Protagonist's Privilege to dissuade her from initiating combat.
