Passives

Notes
- The Pirate Crew Member summoned by Mescal's passive has the same stats and passives as the Pirate Crew Member summoned by passive:
- Opponent loses [their level x 10] stars if defeated (as opposed to the standard 1/2).
- The player who summoned this unit gains the stars.
- Unlike with Tequila, Mescal's pirate cannot appear as an enemy unit on
Encounter panels; therefore, the passive that prevents Pirate Crew Member from appearing as Encounter to the summoner does not apply.
Overview
Mescal is a unique character with a passive and Hyper built around punishing those who challenge her. With a slightly below-average health stat, and average ATK stat, Mescal will generally play passively. If Mescal's passive is not on cooldown, there will be a good chance a Pirate Crew Member will defend her. Should Mescal's pirate not be available to help, she can punish opponents attacking her through 
Little Magnum, in order to secure a counter-KO. This is her main strength. While being a good defender, Mescal is also not without pure offensive options, as Little Magnum provides +1 ATK, which can be used for better chances of KO on low HP opponents, or when desperate.
While having a potent defense, Mescal's offensive capability/board control, compared to characters with similar stats like , leaves her lacking. Mescal can be picked on due to her neutral ATK. She can be the target of high ATK bullies such as and , due in part to her pirate providing 1 win to the challenger when KO'd. Similarly, when landing on 
Boss panels, Mescal's lower HP means she is likely to take a massive hit, unless using cards like 
Rbits or
Quick Restoration. Since she has lower HP than average, and her Hyper is reliant on HP, Mescal is often the target of boost/event cards that lower HP, such as 
Long-Distance Shot and 
Cloud of Seagulls.

Mescal's Hyper is Little Magnum.
When used in a battle, it grants the user the following two effects:
- +1 ATK for the duration of the battle.
- Gain +X ATK for the duration of the battle, where X is the amount of damage you have taken during that battle.

- These effects last throughout the battle. Cards that extend the length of battle, such as
Little War and 
Final Battle will extend the effects.
Strategy
Little Magnum is a card that enables the user to turn any damage taken during a battle against the opponent, similarly to 's passive. Mescal's Hyper can be used somewhat freely due to its low cost. The highest bonus possible from this Hyper is using it at Max HP. While using it at low HP is also an option, it is much riskier. The option still remains to use it at low HP, as the +1 ATK boost will always applies.
Arguably, the most beneficial usage of Little Magnum is when being challenged by characters like or . High ATK but low bulk make them the perfect target for a counter-attack -- especially Kae. Even if Mescal only takes one HP of damage, she will still get +2 ATK, when going second. Although this Hyper is strongest on defense, there is always the option of using Little Magnum's +1 ATK challenging other players, treating it like a safer version of 
I'm on Fire! Of course, this Hyper is more readily compared to 
Reflective Shell in its application.
healing in hand which can mitigate damage from usage of Little Magnum. Irrespective of this, Mescal's Hyper is still flexible in the application. On some characters with higher HP pools, like , this card can be a trump battle card while defending. It's possible to defend low rolls to take at least 1 damage, or evade higher rolls (such as a 3,) in order to intentionally take more -- a risky gamble. Against , Little Magnum runs into the issue of not being able to grant the secondary effect without cards that extend the battle, such as Little War; however, this card is too expensive to see reliable use most of the time.Playstyle
Mescal should play defensively, opting to avoid most fights and Encounter panels, as HP is very precious to her toolkit and statline. Instead, she should prioritize 
Bonus panels, only considering 
Draw panels to obtain staple cards such as Dinner, 
Saki's Cookie, and Little Magnum. Generally, she should keep HP high to have a chance to use Little Magnum if needed. She should only start fights to secure an easy KO, a safe 
Home panel fight for norma, or when there is no better option. As a last resort, Mescal can use the +1 ATK from Little Magnum for an offensive KO. Mescal's bulk allows her to take Encounter panels relatively safely if the other option, such as a 
Drop panel, would be too detrimental. Boss panels are still a risky endeavor due to Mescal's smaller HP pool.
Tips
- Playing As Mescal
- A potent passive and defensive statline allows Mescal to be a considerable tank. Cards which bolster her defenses and heal her, such as Saki's Cookie, Dinner, and
Shield, which significantly increases her odds of survival against strong foes/expected battle cards. - While not as card-reliant as other characters, she should still try to land on Draw panels to bolster her defensive options. Holding Little Magnum allows a way to KO threatening opponents.
Shield Counter is a must-have. Mescal often won't care if someone else draws this, but it is incredible if she herself wields it. This card affords Mescal some much-needed safety; it is one of the sole ways of countering Hyper cards like 
Accelerator, should her pirate not be available to help.- Rbits or
Rainbow-Colored Circle can both be used defensively, with Rainbow-Colored Circle being a way to avoid HP loss entirely. However, both of these cards can make it difficult for Mescal to land a hard-hitting counter, when used against her. Rbits has more use case for the Boss, which Mescal can be vulnerable to, due to her smaller HP and only 1 DEF. - Shield is typically preferred over Rbits. Shield cannot be used when attacking Mescal. Rbits can be used to cushion a counter attack from Mescal's Hyper, Little Magnum. For this reason, a player picking Mescal should be considerate of including Rbits over Shield.
- While the pirate can counterattack, Mescal should not rely solely on the pirate to do it for her. The pirate minion from her passive is quite frail, at: 2 HP, 1 ATK, -1 DEF, -1 EVD. She should make use of Little Magnum when the pirate fails to protect her, should it be warranted.
- Playing Against Mescal
- Cards that deal damage outside of battle, such as Long-Distance Shot and
Big Rocket Cannon, are highly effective ways of chipping at Mescal's HP bulk. - Cards that start battles such as
Gentleman's Battle will bypass Mescal's passive, making them one of the few reliable ways to fight Mescal directly. - Cards such as Final Battle can be paired with +ATK characters -- especially when using Hypers such as
Extraordinary Specs-- as a way of securing a KO on Mescal, without potentially relying on a second fight chance. - Characters with high ATK such as and can often one shot the pirate and put her passive back on cooldown, making her vulnerable.
- Mescal's weakness lies in her inability to outpace characters who can generate stars faster, while also not having much offensive potential to deal with them.
Ubiquitous is one card she will struggle against.
