Basic Info
Theme

Shifu (シフ Shifu) is one of the playable characters in 100% Orange Juice!. He was added to the game in DLC 34 alongside Hoshino Reika.

Passives

  • Deal +2 battle damage to robotic wild units.
  • When a robotic wild unit defeats an opposing player, gain 1 Win.

Overview

Shifu is the commander of the forces that invade Earth during the events of SUGURI with the intent of wiping out all indigenous life. Sporting both neutral ATK and EVD, as well as -2 DEF, Shifu isn't proficient in combat with other players, bosses, or minions. The lone exception to this is Robo Ball, which his passive allows him to one-shot as long as the attack hits. Despite his abysmal DEF, his HP is among the best in the game, equaled only by Kiriko and Flying Castle, so the player can still take a beating before going down. Shifu's second passive can be thought of as a wins equivalent of Beast Witchicon Beast Witch, and can be used to gain wins off of other players, though the wins are not split between multiple Shifus. Because of this, Pet Snacksicon Pet Snacks can be of use by making Robo Balls much tougher and harder hitting. If the player can consistently find Robo Balls on Mass encount0 Encounter panels, particularly if BattlefieldBattlefield
Every 6 Chapters, all Mass bonus0 Bonus and Mass drop0 Drop panels will become Mass encount0 Encounter panels. This effect lasts for 3 Chapters.
is active, it may be viable to pick Wins Norma. Both of these can be aided by Shifu's hyper, Ideal Worldicon Ideal World, which will force other players as well as Shifu himself to fight Robo Balls in their next 2 random encounters. This can heavily disrupt other players that may be trying for wins norma, and make landing on Mass check0 Home panels risky due to the Invasionicon Invasion traps it places. However, it can also potentially backfire, as the player will have to brave an encounter while attacking second when wanting to norma on their own base if the trap has not been used.

Shifu's biggest drawback is undoubtedly his low DEF. Repeat encounters will inevitably result in a KO, especially with high ATK characters and bosses without the means to reliably defend or evade their attacks. In general, in the early game, Shifu can go for wins or stars norma depending on the map and field events. For normas 4 and 5, stars is usually the better option.

Effect

Shifu's Hyper is Ideal World. When used, copies of the Trap card Invasionicon Invasion will be set on all Mass check0 Home panels that do not already have a trap on them. These traps count as being set by the player.

In addition, all units including the player gain 2 stacks of the Robotic Takeover stock effect, which will be consumed by 1 stack every time the affected unit enters an Mass encount0 Encounter. While in effect, all Encounters that the unit enters are guaranteed to be against Robo Ball, and the Robo Ball will gain +1 ATK in that battle.

Upon usage of Ideal World, if the player is Shifu, a number of hovering Robo Balls will spawn on random panels on the board. These Robo Balls are purely cosmetic and have no effect on gameplay. They will be either orange, blue, green, or yellow, depending on the player's player number. The Robo Balls may shoot at opponents who walk under them, and all units on the panel will have a small reaction to the shot if they are hit. They will despawn once no players in the game have any stacks of Robotic Takeover.

Notes

  • When the Invasion traps are discarded after being triggered, they are removed from the game rather than being sent to the discard pile.
  • Robotic Takeover does not create new robotic wild units, but rather "locks out" any non-robotic wild units from appearing on encounters. This effectively causes Robo Ball to be the only possible encounter. As such, any previous damage, stars, or Pet Snacksicon Pet Snacks stacks attained by the Robo Ball encounter prior to the usage of Ideal World will be retained upon triggering an encounter with Robotic Takeover.
  • Battles caused by Invasionicon Invasion, Piyopiyo Processionicon Piyopiyo Procession, and Mass minigame Minigame panels count as encounters, and are therefore affected by Robotic Takeover.
  • Battles against the Mass encount1 Boss do not count as encounters. Therefore, they will not be replaced with robotic wild units and will not deplete stacks of Robotic Takeover.

Interactions

  • Rbit Hobby Shopicon Rbit Hobby Shop: Any Rbit Hobby Shop traps set on Home panels will not be overwritten by an Invasion. Its ability to be overwritten by other traps does not take effect.
  • Invisible Bombicon Invisible Bomb: Any Invisible Bomb traps set on Home panels will not be overwritten by an Invasion, even if the player cannot see them.
  • Slimebombicon Slimebomb / Lureicon Lure: Any Home panels currently transformed into a different type of panel will still have Invasion traps set on them.
  • Tequila: Robotic Takeover will prevent Pirate Crew Members from appearing in encounters for the affected unit.

Strategy

Playstyle

Shifu is a bit of a tanky character with low DEF, yet high HP. He isn't very likely to go down in one fight, though he's incredibly likely to take major damage from one fight alone. He has a couple of playstyles and a couple of ways to attempt to make up for his weaknesses.

Tips

Playing As Shifu
  • Puddingicon Pudding is a must-bring due to his 8 HP and -2 DEF. His negative stats also make Serious Battleicon Serious Battle and Reverse Attribute Fieldicon Reverse Attribute Field useful.
  • Regardless of your playstyle, another important card to bring is Quick Restorationicon Quick Restoration so you don't lose a lot of HP to heavy-hitting units.
  • A third and final way to slightly ensure your demise will not be imminent is to bring Rbitsicon Rbits, as it will give you a better chance at rolling a high number for defense.
  • Shifu's high HP allows him to play cards that cost HP such as Big Magnumicon Big Magnum and Lonely Charioticon Lonely Chariot for cheap.
  • Invasionicon Invasion and Piyopiyo Processionicon Piyopiyo Procession can help secure wins after using Ideal Worldicon Ideal World.
  • Completion Rewardicon Completion Reward is also a good card to bring depending on how trap-reliant you play.
  • If you're playing around traps, Path Blockersicon Path Blockers is another good card to bring if you want to ensure people will land on your traps.
Playing Against Shifu
  • Pet Snacksicon Pet Snacks can easily be used against Shifu due to his -2 DEF. However, be warned that Pet Snacksicon Pet Snacks buffs the Robo Ball too, so you might give Shifu a free win.
  • If he's actively using traps, Stiff Crystalicon Stiff Crystal and We Are Warudaicon We Are Waruda are other good counter cards to bring, since you can easily avoid his traps.
  • Since his ability to defend isn't the best, you could bully him and use cards like Big Magnumicon Big Magnum or I'm on Fire!icon I'm on Fire! to deal big damage to him.
  • Cards that set HP to 1, such as Sealed Guardianicon Sealed Guardian or Devil Handicon Devil Hand, can bypass Shifu's large HP pool in anticipation of a KO.

Co-op

In Co-op mode, Shifu's stats and passive are mostly unchanged. However, Shifu has unique interactions with the various different systems in Co-op Mode:

  • Shifu's battle damage passive applies to the special Robo Ball encounters when fighting M10 Robot.
  • Shifu's wins passive does not apply to KO's achieved by Robo Ball encounters or Robo Pals from Ideal World.

Shifu's Hyper, Ideal World, is changed into a Boost type card and has a different effect in Co-op. When used, the player will be prompted to target any non-KO'd player. This can also target the player. Upon doing so, the target will receive the Robo Pals stock effect for two chapters: In all circumstances where the target would participate in a battle, a wild Robo Ball will be fought in the target's place.
